The Jack Del Rio Foundation and Raiders Team Up To Help Under-Served Students in San Francisco
In advance of Super Bowl 50, the Jack Del Rio Foundation, the Raiders Foundation, the Oakland Raiders, the Knights of Columbus and Catholic Athletes for Christ (CAC) partnered on February 1 to distribute new winter coats to children in San Francisco, Calif. This marks the second time the Jack Del Rio Foundation, the Raiders Foundation and the Knights of Columbus teamed up to bring coats to under-served youth as they held a similar holiday event at the last home game of the Oakland Raiders 2015 season.
Students attending our Lady of the Visitacion School in San Francisco enjoyed an after school event featuring Oakland Raiders Head Coach Jack Del Rio, several other Raiders coaches and players, and Pro Football Hall of Famers Dave Casper (Oakland Raiders) and Anthony Munoz (Cincinnati Bengals). Nearly 300 students received new, warm winter coats and had the opportunity for a fun interactive question and answer session with the Oakland Raiders coaches and players.
Coach Del Rio, his wife Linda and their four children have made giving back to the community a strong priority. “Linda and I have made this part of our family mission to make sure that we give back. We recognize that we’ve been very blessed and that we are called on to give back. We want to be able to do that here in the community locally where we live and work. We think that’s important to do,” said Coach Del Rio.
Linda Del Rio was largely responsible for connecting all of the partners for yesterday’s event through their family Foundation’s previous events with the Knights of Columbus and her position on the CAC board. She hopes the presence of the coaching staff, players and Hall of Famers made an impact on the students. “When they see people at the level of professionalism in sport that these guys are, that they still take the time in their busy work day to stop and give back. It’s a powerful platform, sport is. And so hopefully these kids see that and want to continue and grow in their life and character and virtue.”
Founded in 2007, the Jack Del Rio Foundation has sought out opportunities to meet the needs of under-served youth in the community through the investment of time, financial support and devotion.
